Looking back: Memories of the 2024 season

Many memorable moments occurred over the course of the 2024 DCC season, here are a few singled out by our members.

Mike Wynn

“One of the highlights this summer for me was watching the final Class A Group come in on the 9th hole, playing their last hole of the club championship.

Robbie (Campbell) was up first with a longer putt than Manu (Manuel Coté) on the green. No one really knew who was winning but we all knew it was close. Robbie had a good putt, but it came up just short of the hole and he moved to finish it off when Manu put up his hand and told Robbie to “mark it.” Robbie was surprised but realized what Manu was doing.  At that point it was clear that Robbie was going to win (or already had) and Manu wanted him to have the final putt.  Manu finished his putt and then Robbie followed to large applause. It was clear by Robbie’s body language he had won.

To me, this is the epitome of class and sportsmanship.  Knowing how to win is one thing, but knowing how to accept defeat and lose graciously is even more important which is why I was so pleased to witness such a heartwarming display.  I hope we keep seeing actions like this more often.”

“While this is not a specific golf course story, it certainly affected and delighted many Dunany residents this summer. It is the story of the other “Dunany moose” (not the one in the clubhouse), who was seen hanging out in the Neill Road /Curran/Black Lake areas this summer. He was recently transported to an ecological reserve where there will be plenty of food for winter, the company of other moose, and no hunting to worry about. A memorable visitor.”

Ball lie of the year

The Club Championship tends to bring out unexpected lies for all of us, putting us in positions we would never have imagined. None more so this awkward position Bradley McLeod endured on the 9th hole.
